How to Get the WhatsApp Green Tick (Verified Badge) – Step-by-Step Guide
A practical guide to the WhatsApp verified badge for businesses: what it is, who qualifies, how to apply for an Official Business Account and what to do if you are rejected.
What is the WhatsApp “green tick”?
For years, businesses called it the WhatsApp green tick – a check mark next to a business name that shows the account is authentic. In 2024 Meta moved to a blue verified badge across its apps, so many businesses now see a blue check instead of a green one. People still search for “green tick”, and it means the same thing: a sign from Meta that your business account is verified.
The badge builds trust. Customers know they are talking to the real brand and not a copycat, which can improve replies to your messages and reduce fraud complaints.
Two ways to get a verified badge
1. Official Business Account (OBA)
This is for businesses on the WhatsApp Business Platform (API). You request it from WhatsApp Manager. Meta reviews whether your brand is notable – well known and often mentioned by independent sources. There is no fee from Meta for the request, but approval is not guaranteed.
2. Meta Verified for Business
Meta also offers a paid Meta Verified subscription for businesses in some countries. It includes a verified badge and other benefits. Availability, price and rules depend on your country and change from time to time, so check Meta’s current information.
Who is eligible for an Official Business Account?
Meta does not publish a simple checklist, but approved businesses usually have these things in common:
- Meta business verification is complete for your business portfolio.
- Two-step verification is turned on for your WhatsApp number.
- Your display name is approved and matches your brand exactly.
- Your brand is notable: it appears in well-known news or media websites – organic articles, not paid posts or press releases.
- Your number has a good quality rating – few blocks and spam reports.
- Your website is live, secure (HTTPS) and clearly shows your business details.
Step-by-step: how to request an Official Business Account
- Complete business verification in Meta Business Settings → Security Centre. Keep your registration documents ready (for example GST, company registration or shop licence) and make sure the legal name matches.
- Get your display name approved. Use your real brand name – not generic words like “Best Offers”.
- Turn on two-step verification for your WhatsApp number from WhatsApp Manager.
- Collect proof of notability. Prepare links to 3–5 articles about your brand on known news or industry websites. Paid or promotional content usually doesn’t count.
- Submit the request. In WhatsApp Manager, open your phone number’s settings and find the Official Business Account request. Add your supporting links and submit.
- Wait for Meta’s review. You will get the result in WhatsApp Manager. It can take from a few days to a few weeks.
Why requests get rejected
- Not enough public coverage. The brand is not yet notable in independent news.
- Only paid coverage. Sponsored posts and press releases usually don’t count.
- Name mismatch. The display name doesn’t match your website, documents or articles.
- Business verification not done or documents don’t match.
- Low quality rating caused by spam complaints.
What to do if you are rejected
A rejection is not permanent. Focus on building real brand presence for a few months:
- Get covered by local newspapers, industry blogs or news portals for real milestones – a launch, an award, a community project.
- Keep your website, Google Business Profile and social pages up to date with the same brand name.
- Grow your quality rating by messaging only opted-in customers.
- Apply again after your brand has more independent mentions.
Do you need the badge to use WhatsApp API?
No. You can use every WhatsApp Business API feature – campaigns, chatbots, team inbox and integrations – without a verified badge. Your business name still appears to customers who saved your number, and your business profile shows your details. Many successful businesses run on the API for years before they get the badge.
